Death Notice – Anthony Browne

It was with great sadness that we at Moate Show Society learned of the passing of Anthony (Tony) Browne this week.
The Browne family have been synonymous with Moate Agricultural Show, providing the showgrounds and sponsoring the A.Browne All-Ireland Filly Foal Final for decades.
Tony was ever the gentleman and the generosity and support which he has shown to us over the years is a credit to his goodwill and kindness.
We send our deepest condolences to his family; Rosemary, Liam, Joe, Frank, Magdalen, Ted and all his extended family.

We would like to say a very big thank you to all those who turned up to a great night at our Table Quiz in the Grand Hotel Moate last year. It was great to see so many peoples, faces old and new, come together for our event and we hope you all had a lovely time.
After 8 tough rounds of questioning from Eileen Dunican, and a round of extra questions, we had joint-first winners. A hearty congratulations to them:

– Table 10 (Jimmy Redmond, Noel and Doreen McNeill and Marita Tooher).
A special word of thanks to our Sponsors who kindly contributed to our raffle prizes on the night: Glasson Lakehouse, Wineport Lodge, Tyrrellspass Castle Restaurant, McManus pharmacy, Mary’s SuperValu of Athlone, Dunnes Stores (Athlone), and of course, Grand Hotel Moate, and its staff for their hospitality.

Sponsors for 2022

We would like to express a sincere Thank You to all of our Sponsors which supported us in 2022. Without your help, we would not have been able to put on such an event.

Your support and assistance is greatly appreciated.

2023 AGM

The Annual General Meeting of Moate Agricultural Show will be held on Wednesday, the 7th of December 2022 in the Grand Hotel, Moate. The meeting will take place at 8:30 pm.

2022 Show Launch

We were delighted to officially launch our 179th Show in the Grand Hotel, Moate on Friday, the 29th of July. Speakers on the night included the 2022 Westmeath Rose, Ms. Rachel Duffy and Irish Shows Association  Vice-President, Mr. Raymond Brady.

Raymond Brady, Vice-Chairperson of the ISA, and Chairperson of the Midlands Region spoke of the importance of getting shows ‘back on the road’ for 2022. He remarked in the achievement that is Moate Agricultural Show about to run their 179th event, a testament to the committee in place and all committee which have gone before. He said that the need to have young people involved has never been greater, given the events which unfolded during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Afterwards, Rosemount native, Rachel,  spoke to the guests on the night about her involvement in the Rose of Tralee festival to date and spoke fondly of times she has spent at the show, calling it a ‘focal point’ of the local community and a “marking point in the local calendar that signals the end of the Summer holidays and the return to school”.

We were then delighted to be joined by Westmeath G.A.A captain, Mr. Kevin Maguire, of Caulry G.A.A who led the Westmeath Senior Men’s Team to glory in the inaugural Tailteann Cup. With the cup in tow, Kevin was also joined by two local men, Mr. Lorcan Dolan (Castledaly G.A.A) and Mr. Robbie Forde (Moate G.A.A). It was great to have these local players join in on the nights festivities, with plenty of photos being taken to celebrate the teams success.

A big thank you to our many sponsors who without their gratuity, we would be unable to run our event this year.

A special word of thanks to all of the team in The Grand Hotel, Moate for providing us with a venue for the evening and for the refreshments served afterwards.
